EMERMAN REPORT COMPLETED AND RELEASED

The release of the Emerman Report (click to view/download PDF) concerning the mining proposal in Coxheath virtually speaks for itself:  Mining in this sensitive location and the sale of municipal land for mining should not be undertaken.  We hope that it brings this matter to an immediate close, however if for some reason it does not, our organization and the community will continue to see that it does.  When this Association came together to research and report on the proposed mining project, we recognized that in today's age of sound-bytes, online discussions and cherry-picked news, it would not be enough for the public and government to just take our word for it.  We were very fortunate to have a large community backing who could come together with the right skills and knowledge to identify the potential risks, identify the correct ways to make change, to provide options, and have the humility to seek independent study.  The study and report was conducted by a highly credible and world recognized expert in mining.

Our group and community supporters understand that mining and copper are needed and that more jobs are hot topics, but when the motives for proposing a new mine are not only environmentally and economically un-sound, rather are crafted to manipulate and suit private interests - we had to stand up and not be shamed for not blindly accepting unfounded promises.  In reality, if this project would somehow have actually become realized, we would be accepting permanent environmental damage in return for a minuscule amount of copper and non-sustainable local employment, if any at all - all "in the name of green energy."  The community would be left with the costs, legal battles and stress of living without clean water.  The community and surrounding areas gladly welcome genuine business opportunities, not one that places high risk and jeopardizes the health and well being of the people and ecosystem that live there.
